Interview Test Preparation

You will connect to your tutor via a video call. Your tutor will give you the opportunity to take several practice interview tests. After each test, your tutor will provide feedback and guidance on how to improve your performance. This will allow you to become comfortable with the interview format and learn how to give the sort of responses that the testers are looking for.

Video Call

We recommend using Zoom for your session. Zoom is free to download and works on all phones, tablets, and computers. Apart from this convenience, it has a feature that allows you to record your meetings. We highly recommend doing this, as it will allow you to rewatch the meeting whenever you want and get even more use out of your investment.

Note: The content of these sessions is not to be shared in any way, nor posted online, by either party without their recorded permission.

Cancellation Policy

Once the time and date for the session is set, you’ll be sent a link to the Zoom meeting. If, for any reason, you cannot attend, please send us an email at least 24 hours in advance. With 24 hours notice, we can reschedule the meeting.

Failure to contact us 24 hours before cancelling will result in the forfeiture of your fee and you will need to reapply for this service.

If our tutor needs to cancel the meeting, we will let you know as soon as we become aware of this issue and will send you a link to reschedule the meeting.

Importance of communication style

The interview test is intended to find out if you can do more than remember answers to basic written questions. Japanese students, in particular, tend to do much better on written tests than on oral ones. Responding to conversational cues requires a very different skill set. The testers want to know that you can come up with verbal responses in more natural situations.

One of the skills being tested is the ability to speak clearly and coherently. Another, just as important skill, is being able to politely ask for clarification when you don’t understand what the other person said. A third skill is being able to communicate complex ideas, not just give rote responses to simple questions.

Attitude comes a close second in importance behind these skills. Giving the appearance of being calm and friendly, self-assured but not arrogant, will go a long way towards setting the right tone.

The last crucial factor is the ability to listen. This is an interview, an interaction between two or more people, in which one person answers the questions of the others. It is not a monologue or a lecture. To have a successful interview, you’ll have to listen carefully to each other.

Let’s work together to craft a great interview.

Content and Flow

Step 1: Start

Read all the rest of these steps before clicking on the link below. That way you’ll know both what to expect and the limits of the project.

Step 2: Apply

The link will take you to a form that you’ll fill out with some mildly personal information – name, email, and which service you are applying for. There is also a box where you can add some details about the project you are undertaking. There’s also the option to ask for a Rush on this project. This will give you priority on your booking which means you will be able to book after-hours time slots so that your session can take place sooner. Once you’ve filled in all your information and made all your choices, you’ll press the send button. Then, if the cyber gods are kind, we’ll get that information.

Step 3: First Contact

When we get your information, we’ll send you an email. This will contain a polite greeting along with confirmation of the service you are requesting. You can reply to this email in order to start the process of arranging a date for your tutoring session.

Step 4: Upfront Payment

That first email will also contain a link to an invoice where you can, completely securely, pay online. Once we receive confirmation of your payment, we’ll send you an email regarding the scheduling of your tutoring session.

Step 5: Tutoring Session

The tutoring session will take place via a video call. (See the note above about these.) Your tutor will give you the opportunity to take several practice tests. After each test, they will provide feedback aimed at helping you to improve the quality and content of your answers.

This format will help you to become more comfortable with the style and structure of the interview test. You should also be able to learn the sort of delivery and response that the testers are looking for.

This tutoring session will last about 60 minutes, during which we expect to get through approximately 3 to 4 practice tests.
